Story
Arup grew backup and failover faster than the local tools around it. From the United Kingdom, industrials teams still had to serve customers and internal partners who expected a straight answer. SRE and operations were the ones stitching the picture together by hand.
Rolling out Google Cloud put reliability engineering on Google Cloud. Google Cloud provides infrastructure, analytics, and AI services, including BigQuery and Vertex AI, for data-heavy and machine learning workloads. Arup keeps the product in the path where work already happens, so SRE and operations do not context-switch into a graveyard system used only for audits.
The visible result is steadier reliability engineering. Backup and failover is easier to inspect, and adjacent groups can join SRE and operations without a guided tour of someone's desktop.
