Inside Essential Utilities, pay operations used to depend on whoever still had the latest file. That pattern is common in utilities groups working out of the United States. Payroll teams needed a system that would still make sense after the original project team moved on.
Essential Utilities uses Workday Adaptive Planning from Workday as the working layer for payroll processing. Workday delivers cloud human capital management and financials used to run core HR, payroll, planning, and accounting on one system. The practical change is simple: pay operations has a home, and reviews happen there instead of in a forwarded thread.
Nothing in this writeup invents a savings number. What Essential Utilities gets from Workday is a durable place to run pay operations and a way for payroll teams to see the same payroll processing at the same time.
