Story
Carvana grew backup and failover faster than the local tools around it. From the United States, consumer discretionary teams still had to serve customers and internal partners who expected a straight answer. SRE and operations were the ones stitching the picture together by hand.
Rolling out Aria put reliability engineering on VMware. VMware, part of Broadcom, provides virtualization, private cloud, and container software used to run enterprise data centers. Carvana keeps the product in the path where work already happens, so SRE and operations do not context-switch into a graveyard system used only for audits.
The visible result is steadier reliability engineering. Backup and failover is easier to inspect, and adjacent groups can join SRE and operations without a guided tour of someone's desktop.
